okay for the money By N. SurellaI searched long and wide for a low cost way to store my CD's and found these and bought a dozen of them. They're made out of pretty rough wood – think of the kind of wood that pallets are made of. The wood is about 1/4 thick and a few of the holders had splinters that needed to be sanded down. I arranged them vertically and horizontally and found that the vertical ones were nearly impossible to pull the CD's out – so they should all be arranged horizontally. they are well made, but kind of a tight fit to get the CD's into. I ended up painting mine with 2 coats of a high gloss paint. all in all – after the $ for the paint and paint supplies, I could have bought something made of metal for the same amount of money, so I was disappointed.

Good buy By MaryWood is a material that can be stained to match your furniture and looks so much better in most interiors than other materials. and the construction here is sturdy, nothing that looks as cheap as the price once it's finished off. If you've done any other furniture finishing with small amounts of leftover supplies, you don't even need to figure in the finishing cost (other than your time). At any rate, the finished result looks more expensive than the cheap ready-made products in metal or plastic, even if you didn't pay an arm and a leg for the attractive wooden storage.
The only negative is that the pieces are stapled (heavy duty furniture kind of staples) and the staples show, so something like wood putty needs to be applied and sanded before staining in order to hide the staples. An alternative construction with sanding and finishing would have made them cost noticeably more, so they seem to me to strike a pretty good balance with this unfinished product offering. Hardwood construction would have cost lots more, though it would be nice to have option too.
If you think of this as miniature unfinished furniture, it fills a need I haven't seen filled in any other options anywhere else. I'd buy this product over again in a second… and in fact, I did just place another order for more today.
